What can PET plastic bottles hold
source:www.glxiaochengxu.com  |  Release time:2025-06-17
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles are widely used in the packaging field due to their chemical resistance, high transparency, light weight, and low cost. The following are common items and precautions that PET plastic bottles can hold to help you use them safely and reasonably:
1、 Food and beverage category
1. Beverage packaging (most common application)
Applicable scenarios: mineral water, carbonated drinks (such as cola), fruit juice, tea drinks, functional drinks (such as Red Bull), dairy products (such as yogurt, soy milk), etc.
Advantages:
Good barrier properties: PET has strong barrier properties against oxygen and carbon dioxide, which can maintain the carbonation of carbonated beverages and prevent juice oxidation and spoilage.
Compliant with food contact standards: Compliant with the "Food Safety Standards for Plastic Materials and Products in Contact with Food" (GB 4806.7), non-toxic and odorless, and can directly come into contact with food.
Note: Avoid long-term storage of alcoholic beverages (such as Baijiu). Alcohol may slowly dissolve the additives in PET, affecting the taste or safety.
2. Seasoning and edible oil
Applicable scenarios: soy sauce, vinegar, edible oils (such as peanut oil, olive oil), honey, syrup, etc.
Advantages:
Acid and oil resistance: PET has good tolerance to weak acids (such as vinegar) and oils, and is not easily swollen or deformed.
Good sealing: Paired with a spiral cover, it can prevent liquid leakage and is suitable for daily storage in households.
Attention: Edible oil is recommended to be stored away from light (PET bottles have good transparency, long-term light exposure may accelerate oil oxidation), and it is recommended to use them within 3 months after opening.
3. Dry goods and snacks
Applicable scenarios: candy, cookies, nuts (such as peanuts and almonds), coffee beans, tea and other dry goods.
Advantages:
Moisture and dust prevention: PET bottles can be sealed to isolate air humidity and maintain the crispy texture of dry goods; The transparent bottle body is convenient for viewing the status of the contents.
Attention: For high-fat snacks (such as potato chips), it is recommended to choose dark or brown PET bottles to reduce the risk of oxidation and spoilage.
2、 Daily chemical and personal care products
1. Cleaning and protective equipment
Applicable scenarios: shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, hand sanitizer, laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, etc.
Advantages:
Chemical resistance: PET has good resistance to surfactants (such as sodium dodecyl sulfate) and alkaline components (such as soap base), and is not easily corroded.
Lightweight design: Compared to glass bottles, it is more lightweight and suitable for pressing pump heads or flip designs, making it easy to use.
Attention: Strong alkaline cleaning agents (such as pipeline uncloggers) may corrode PET for a long time, and it is recommended to choose specialized packaging.
2. Cosmetics and skincare products
Applicable scenes: make-up water, lotion, face cream (small volume packaging), make-up remover, sunscreen, etc.
Advantages:
High transparency: easy to display product color and texture, meeting the aesthetic requirements of cosmetic packaging.
Strong drop resistance: not easily shattered like a glass bottle, suitable for carrying around.
Note: Brown PET bottles are recommended for high concentration alcohol cosmetics (such as perfume) to reduce the decomposition of ingredients caused by ultraviolet radiation.
3、 Industrial and laboratory supplies (material compatibility needs to be confirmed)
1. Chemical reagents (non corrosive)
Applicable scenarios: Neutral or weakly acidic reagents (such as sodium chloride solution, glucose solution), some organic solvents (such as ethanol, acetone, requiring short-term storage).
be careful:
Prohibit the use of strong oxidants such as concentrated nitric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid (which may cause PET degradation or swelling).
Prohibited from containing halogenated hydrocarbons such as carbon tetrachloride and chloroform, which may dissolve PET material and cause leakage.
Laboratory use requires verification: Industrial grade PET bottles need to be confirmed to have passed chemical compatibility testing (such as ASTM D543 standard).
2. Cleaning agents and solvents
Applicable scenarios: Neutral glass cleaner, automotive glass cleaner, weakly acidic rust remover, etc.
Caution: Avoid using strong alkaline cleaners (such as sodium hydroxide solution) or strong oxidizing solvents (such as bleach), as they may damage the structure of the bottle.
4、 Life and creative use (non food contact)
1. Storage and DIY
Purpose: To store buttons, needles, small tools, seeds, handmade materials, etc; After cutting, it can be used as a pen holder, flower pot (with holes for drainage), and storage box.
Advantages: Low cost, easy to obtain, transparent material for easy classification and search of items.
2. Horticulture and Environmental Protection
Usage: To make automatic watering devices (with holes in the bottle body buried in the soil), seedling cups (cut open to serve as transparent greenhouses), and garbage sorting and storage bottles (such as packaging recyclable materials).
Core safety tips for using PET plastic bottles
1. Prohibition of repeated use or long-term storage:
PET bottles are designed for "one-time or short-term use", and repeated use may release microplastics due to wear, bacterial growth, or material aging (especially when filled with hot water, PET's heat-resistant temperature is generally ≤ 70 ℃, and it is prone to deformation and release harmful substances at high temperatures).
Food packaging bottles are recommended to be discarded immediately after use to avoid refilling with water or beverages.
2. Distinguish between levels and identification:
The number "1" inside the triangular recycling symbol at the bottom of the bottle represents PET material (such as mineral water bottles), while other numbers (such as "5" representing PP) correspond to different plastics. Do not mix them up for use.
3. Avoid high temperatures and direct sunlight:
The heat resistance of PET is limited, and prolonged exposure to high temperatures (such as direct sunlight inside a car) may cause the plastic to soften, release odors or chemicals, affecting the safety of the contents.
